What We Can Achieve Together
The Conservation and Fisheries Coordinator supports conservation and fisheries activities across Pohnpei within the Micronesia & Polynesia Chapter. This position provides administrative, research, project management, and technical assistance to program staff, communities, and partners working toward the achievement of protection, conservation, stewardship, and sustainable fisheries goals. The role is based in Pohnpei and is a fixed-term 3-year position, renewable subject to funding.
Salary: $31,400–$36,000 annual base salary (based on location, qualifications, skills, and experience). Location: Pohnpei, Federated State of Micronesia (FSM).
Essential Functions
- Manage conservation and fisheries data, support planning processes, and develop project packages and maintain project records.
- Conduct biological sampling of coastal fisheries species, species identification, enumeration, and data entry, as well as leading fisheries stock assessments.
- Support anchored Fish Aggregating Device (aFAD) programmes and effective engagement with communities in the development and implementation of fisheries projects and management plans.
- Organize and facilitate meetings, activities, and events with communities, government agencies, and partners.
- Develop outreach and training materials; train, coordinate, and manage interns, volunteers, and contractors.
- Contribute to programme budget preparation, monitoring, and fundraising support.
- Build strong networks with fishers, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members, and the public.
What You'll Bring
- BA/BS degree in biology, ecology, fisheries management, natural resources, or related field and 2 years of related work experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience with fisheries or conservation work.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects and handling business communications.
- Fluency in English and Pohnpeian language.
- Valid driver's licence and good driving record.
