About the Internship

This is an internship opportunity within the Horizon Europe-funded project ActFast, focused on innovative and sustainable aquaculture practices. The position is based at a fish farm in Slovenia, owned by project partner G2O, and will run for a duration of 3 to 6 months. The selected candidate will be co-supervised by G2O and Simona Paolacci and will contribute to applied research activities involving the use of duckweed (Lemnaceae species) systems for phytoremediation of aquaculture effluents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation and monitoring of duckweed-based phytoremediation systems.
  • Conduct water sampling and physico-chemical analyses.
  • Assist in data collection, processing, and reporting within the ACTFAST project framework.
  • Contribute to experimental design and optimization of integrated aquaculture systems.

Candidate Profile

  • MSc student seeking a thesis project or PhD candidate interested in an international secondment.
  • Background in aquaculture, environmental science, biology, or related fields.
  • Interest in sustainable aquaculture and circular bioeconomy approaches.
  • Ability to work independently and in field conditions.
  • Valid driving license and access to a car, or willingness to cycle regularly to the farm (2 km from nearest town).
  • Only EU nationals, or non-EU candidates already legally living and authorised to work in the EU, may apply. No visa sponsorship provided.
