FCiências.ID - Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências, announces an international call for the recruitment of a Research Technician with a BSc Degree, within the scope of the project "coralINT: Integrated Niche Theory: linking environmental, compositional and functional change on coral reefs" (Ref. HORIZON-ERC-COG-101044975), financed by the European Union under Horizon Europe.

Place of work: Research Center MARE-ULisboa – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Laboratório Marítimo da Guia, Cascais, Portugal.

Work Plan

The successful candidate will support the ERC project CoralINT, joining the macroscope lab, led by Prof. Maria Dornelas. The work plan includes the following tasks:

  • Organizing logistics of fieldwork and conference travel, namely travel authorizations, ethical and research permits, travel reservations, accommodation and food, insurance and purchase management.
  • Management of orders, purchases and maintenance of field and lab gear.
  • Maintenance and updates of the group website.
  • Science communication and outreach (e.g. social networks, school visits, exhibitions, interactions with press media).
  • Support in processing coral reef imagery.
  • Data management.
  • Budget and report management.
  • Management of the PI agenda.

There is also the optional opportunity to participate in project fieldtrips.

Admission Requirements

  • BSc degree in any scientific areas, such as Biology, Computer Science, Geography, Physics.
  • Demonstrated scientific and/or professional experience in any area of science.
  • Experience in managing projects including administrative, budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience in participation in scientific projects.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese and English.

Preferential Requirements

  • Organisation and problem solving skills.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to complete tasks to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience or strong interest in ecology and coral reef research.
  • Experience in marine fieldwork or water activities (e.g. scuba diving, snorkeling, boating).
  • Experience in specialized software or coding languages such as HTML, GIS, Metashape, R, Python, SQL.
  • Experience in managing large datasets.
  • Fluent in Portuguese (native or C1+) and English (B2+).

Conditions

  • Full-time indefinite duration fixed-term employment contract, expected to start September 2026, with an expected duration until 31/10/2028.
  • Gross monthly salary: 1.499,15 €.
  • 35 hours per week.
  • 30-day initial experimental trial period.
