The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.

Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C – St. John

The Wildlife Technician A-C positions will be in Hammond/St. John the Baptist/Joyce, Manchac, Maurepas Swamp WMAs.

This position receives direct supervision from a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician Supervisor based in the Hammond field office and will perform daily operations primarily on WMAs within the region, and elsewhere as needed. This position is expected to regularly travel to other WMAs within the region, often with overnight stay. This position requires the physical ability to operate boats, ATV/UTVs, tractors, motor-grader, and other heavy equipment, handle 50 pound sacks of fertilizer, work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and nights, and may be subject to 24-hour call.

Location: St. John the Baptist Parish.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

Job Duties

  • Participates in management activities including planting wildlife openings, moist soil management, conducting prescribed burns, boundary marking, and managed hunts.
  • Collects data used in establishing management or research programs and setting regulations.
  • Participates in necessary construction and maintenance activities on Department buildings, grounds, roads, levees, equipment, camping areas, and water control structures.
  • Participates in lethal and nonlethal collection and sampling of wildlife species for management and research.
  • Transports injured or nuisance animals.
  • Performs any other duties as directed and necessary for the agency to accomplish its mission.

Career Progression

This position may be filled as a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A, B, or C, determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.
