Reports To: Traditional Foods Coordinator.

Location: Hitacu, BC (with travel to Port Albion, Port Alberni, Vancouver Island & Lower Mainland).

Employment Type: Full-Time, Seasonal (June – November).

Position Purpose

Supports the Traditional Foods team with the Food, Social, and Ceremonial (FSC) fishing program, including offload, transport, and distribution of FSC fish. May also participate in Traditional Foods activities, support local fish enhancement initiatives, and assist the Lands and Resources team with land management and marine stewardship activities.

Accountability

FSC Fish Offload & Transport:

  • Attend and assist in fishing vessel offloads in Port Albion and Port Alberni; drive van and/or full-size pickup for fish transport and distributions.

FSC Distributions:

  • Prepare for and attend FSC fish distributions on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate a forklift to load and unload pallets and totes (training and/or recertification provided).

Vehicle & Equipment Care:

  • Assist with vehicle preparations including cleaning and refuelling; properly clean and sanitize totes and other distribution materials.

Team Support:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Traditional Foods Coordinator in accordance with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government policies, standards, practices and procedures.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • A combination of education, training, and job experience to fulfill the demands of the position.
  • Current Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
  • Current First Aid certification (or willing to complete).
  • Current Food Safe certification (or willing to complete).
  • Forklift Operator certification (or willing to complete).

Preferred:

  • Interest or certifications related to Fisheries, Traditional Foods, Indigenous Culture, Aquaculture, Biology, and/or Community Development.
  • Experience operating larger trucks.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in an outdoor setting and involves working in all weather conditions.
  • Available to work remote up to two days in a row when required.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive lighter lifting and turning.
  • Travel required across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
